PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE


Formation:
  • Be + present participle: am/is/are + playing

Formation: affirmative

I

playing football.
He, she, it
is
We, you, they
are

Formation: interrogative
Am
I

playing football?
Is
He, she, it
Are
We, you, they
Negative: by adding ‘not’
  • I am not playing / I’m not playing.
  • He is not running / he isn’t running.
  • They are not writing / they aren’t writing.


  • Present continuous is used to express 
    - An action that takes place at the moment of speaking
  • I’m reading the text at the moment.
    - Activities that happen regularly but only for a limited period of time around the present (temporary routines or habits)
  • She is writing a book about violence in sport.
    - Future events that we have already fixed or arranged
  • They are travelling to Venice next Friday.
